Hello Everyone! I hope this blog encourages you today, especially during these troubling times. With all that is going on in the world, it’s imperative that you take care of your mental health. I was talking to a good friend this week, and I told her all the things I was doing to remain positive. I even said there may be some people that you will have to limit conversations with, if they choose to remain negative. It’s not that you don’t love them, it’s just that you must take care of yourself spiritually, physically, and emotionally.
The mind can become a playground for many negative thoughts that can transform into your reality if you’re not careful. The news networks have a responsibility to report current affairs, but this doesn’t mean you have to sit and watch it all day. It can make you feel sad, fearful, and even hopeless.
I want to remind everyone that there is still Power in Prayer.
Our Heavenly Father is still on the throne and is still in control. He is not surprised by what is going on. The Holy Bible reminds us in Psalm 121:4 that the Lord does not slumber nor sleep. He is our keeper and Still has a plan for all of us. Do not give up! Do not lose hope! Do not worry! For God did not give us a spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). I know sometimes the human side of us can take over due to uncertainties of when this pandemic will be over – this is understandable. However, this is when the Power that God has given us comes into play. Our Words have power (Proverbs 18:21 The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit). There is power in praying. Go to God in prayer. Tell Him exactly how you are feeling. He’s our heavenly Father and He cares for you.
Reading God’s Word has given me comfort during this time. This is where I find my certainty because I know in Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie and in Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is flawless. My trust is in the Lord.
Let me share with you the following Psalm and my prayer is that it will give you the peace you need, as it has done for me, to remember that our heavenly Father will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). He is our helper and provider.
Psalm 121
1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord watches over you—
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
In my Bible, next to Psalm 121:7, I wrote down Daniel 3:25 some time ago. Let me share with you that verse as well:
25 He said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.” In the Book of Daniel, this verse is referring to Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace, who came out of it unscathed with God’s Help. We serve a POWERFUL God.
Do not lose hope. As you’re watching the news on TV, reading all the email notifications that are being sent out regarding the pandemic and continuous information being pushed to numerous newsfeeds, just remember we serve a God who is watching after us as well. Put your trust in God and Him alone.
Please use wisdom during this time. If we’re asked to stay home, then do that. Adhere to the guidelines. We have a responsibility to do our part as well.
Lastly, as so many people are searching for toilet paper, paper towels, Lysol disinfectant sprays, etc., my hope is that people will seek God with that same tenacity. Let’s not be oblivious to what is going on. There was a time that people trusted in their money (look at the stock market), trusted in their jobs (layoffs), trusted in everywhere else except God. Now is the time to Listen.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know (Proverbs 3:5 GNT).
