Peter Moments

In reading Jesus Walk on the Water in Matthew 14:22-36, I am reminded that we should always keep our eyes on our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. When situations occur in our lives, we have a tendency to look down at the problem, which takes our focus off Jesus. This can cause your problem(s) to seem bigger than Him and in essence bring on additional stress and fear. One of the disciples, Peter, did the same thing in this passage:

25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.

27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

29 “Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

How many of us have been in this position before? Share your testimony. Peter was doing fine walking on the water until the wind came and he took his eyes off Jesus. This is when he began to sink. I was once told by another believer that when God gives you a word over your life it will be tested. The enemy will try to get you off your stance to deter you from the promise (the wind). But God! Our God is faithful and if He says it will happen, then it will. Isaiah 55:11 (AMP)
So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; It will not return to Me void (useless, without result), Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.

Even when we look down at the problem or get off track, God is still faithful and full of mercy and grace. He is quick to rescue us when we cry out for help.

31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

God has authority over the wind. Mark 35:39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He has power over every situation in our lives. Psalm 24:1 The earth belongs to God! Everything in all the world is his!

We must not lose hope when the wind comes, because this is an opportunity for God to show up and give us victory. He is mightier and greater than any of our problem(s). He ask that we trust Him and keep the faith in Him. If you are struggling today and feeling burdened down by your circumstance, I strongly encourage you to seek Jesus and surrender it all to Him. Not part of it…not 3/4 of it…but the whole thing. He has the answer. God cares for you, so turn all your worries over to him (1 Peter 5:7 CEV).

My prayer is this post encourages you today to not give up. God loves you. He will help you just like He reached out and helped Peter. Do not let the winds of this world cause you to lose faith in God’s promises. He did not promise that we would not have any troubles in this world (John 16:33), but Jesus told us we are more than conquerors through Him (Romans 8:37) and He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).

If you’re not saved today, then I encourage you to visit my Salvation Prayer page. Welcome Jesus Christ in your heart today. You will not thirst again. He will give you living water (John 4:10). Praise God!

Love you all in Christ,

  1. Amen 🙏🏾

You are what you think And if you feed it, it will surely grow. We must remember, God gives us free will and in this opportunity we are allowed to choose according to our own desires, heart and beliefs. In all things we must seek Him first. Continuously, He ask us to trust Him. And when our trust is put to test, is when we decide how the story ends. God might not give us our every desire but He does take our desires in consideration while determining His will. But if you are unsure, you are sure to fail Him. Trust Him more than your doubt. God can do anything but fail. Choose His way and walk from victory not to victory; know the difference.
