New Mercies I See

Happy New Year’s Eve! I pray that this is not a day of reflection of all the things that didn’t happen in 2018 for you, but a day of thanksgiving to our Lord Jesus Christ. Though so many people across the world are waiting until the first day of 2019 to start over, we do not have to wait as believers.

The Bible tells us in Lamentations 3:22-23 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. We are informed in Deuteronomy 4:24 that our God is a consuming fire, but because He loves us He gives us new mercies every day and does not deal with us according to our sins. Thank you, Jesus for taking care of our sin debt! Since Jesus took care of our sin debt at the cross, we can go into the new year with great expectations and hope!

We serve a faithful God, so we do not have to wait until the first day of 2019 to get another chance. Since we know that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever (Hebrews 13:8), we can hold firm on His word. We have another chance today! I thank God for waking me up today and that I do not have to wait; I have new mercies today and so do you. As you are preparing to celebrate this evening, let’s join together to give thanks to the one who gives us life, breath, strength, joy, salvation, and so much more. He deserves all the praise. Not everyone made it to the end of 2018. Since we are here, God still has a plan for us.

God willing for 2019, I hope that you will seek the Lord for His plans before making a list of your own. I plan to do so; I know that God has a plan for all of us. For I know the plans I have for you, ” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11) No one else can promise you this except for Jesus. If the same old is not working, it’s time to try something new. I do not intend to waste any more time trying to make things work off my own understanding. Each day is a gift and is not promised; therefore, let’s get serious about our calling in the new year. God has given each of us a talent and no matter how small you may think yours is, it’s needed in the Body of Christ.

I wish you all a blessed and prosperous New Year’s Eve and 2019!

I love you all in Christ! — Ayesha Shoulders
