Check Your Own Heart

I walked outside this morning and in the midst of all the chaos in the world, I am still able to recognize the beauty of God’s many blessings around me. My flowers have finally bloomed. I look forward to seeing them every year around this time. They don’t last long, but the time that they grace my yard is ever so memorable. God is STILL Great! I still proclaim for me and my family what God has said in His Holy Word: Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever (Psalm 23:6).

Someone posted this question on Facebook this week: Why is there so much hate in America? I can tell you why. Where the truth is not present (not talking about a specific country, but in any situation), and this goes across the world, you will find hate. Who is the truth? Jesus Christ. Jesus is the way and the truth and the life (John 14:6). It baffles me to hear someone say they love God, but then post a picture on social media that has an angry emoji with a stamp across its mouth with symbols (cursing) and 2020 following it.

How can man, who is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow (Psalm 144:4) curse anything that God has ordained? This saddens me. God ordained the year 2020 to exist else Jesus would have already returned to get His people. Be thankful that 2020 exist because not everyone is ready for Jesus to return.  Oh, He is coming! Man can deny it all he wants; Jesus is coming back and we have to be ready (Revelation 22:12).

It is horrible to see what has happened to so many men and women in the hands of those who have taken an oath to serve and protect. As an African American woman, with a son, I am saying this, not to the ones who are doing their job respectfully, but to the ones who have abused the authority they have been given. With that said, we still have to remember that we will have to give a personal account for what we do to God (Romans 14:12). Giving hate for hate is not the answer.

Across the United States, various states have just been authorized to enter Phase One of reopening since the pandemic started. There have been so many business owners on television begging their Governors to open the states back up, so they can get back to work. Now, business owners who have been waiting to reopen, have nothing to return to because it has all been vandalized! Where is the LOVE in this? I understand people are angry and hurt, but there is a way to handle everything. The property that has been vandalized, the businesses that have been destroyed, were these the owners who committed the crimes that have this country in an uproar? NO. But, these are the people YOU stepped on. Yes, I said stepped on. You reap what you sow (Galatians 6:7). If you sow in HATE, then you will reap in HATE. I’m sure not everyone will agree, but life has a funny way of showing you.

Unfortunately, for a lot of people, they will not get this until it happens to them.

Don’t be surprised if one day you build something that you are proud of, causing you to feel like you’re on top of the world. Then, one day you look up and it is all snatched away from you, just like that. Maybe then you will feel the pain that you have injected upon other people who have worked hard to obtain what they have built as a family legacy. Come on now, it is time to wake up!

We have to check our own hearts. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? (Matthew 7:3)

God sees everything. The same person who is talking about HATE today has HATE in their own heart. They may not have murdered someone physically, but they kill people every day with their words, stepping on their necks with their words, and killing them and their dreams with jealousy.

Posting happy family photos across social media, so loving, so caring, but then as soon as you hit Post, you’re cursing your spouse out, disrespecting your husband, cheating on your wife, yelling at your children, who you’re showboating across your social media pages, oh they are good enough for that, but then asking them privately in anger, “What’s wrong with you?

What’s wrong with YOU? Crushing our children in that manner. Calling them bad and then wondering why they turn out that way. You do know children become adults, right? You just SPOKE it over their lives. Words have POWER. You are no better than the ones you are fighting with TODAY for justice. HATE IS HATE, it has no color and it is all ugly, and I am an African American woman saying this.

Please wake up while you have time.

There may be someone who will want to challenge everything I have written here by saying there were battles in the Holy Bible.  I will say this, when you know Jesus and have a relationship with Him, you know when He is in something and when He is not. God is not chaos. Nothing He does is chaotic. And there is always a purpose behind whatever He does for the GOOD (and not man’s version of what’s good) of His kingdom. In the Book of Judges, God appointed a man named Gideon to save Israel out of Midian’s hand (Judges 6:14). God took an army from 22,000 men (Judges 7:3) down to 300 men (Judges 7:7) to save Israel and give the Midianites into their hands, so man could not boast that they saved Israel in their own strength against the Midianites large army. See, God doesn’t need a large army (HE IS THE ARMY) and by shaving back the number of men in the Israelite camp to defeat the Midianites reveals in great measures that all things are possible with GOD (Matthew 19:26). PURPOSE FULFILLED.

We have ALL sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). I am not perfect myself, and I make mistakes. I am just wise enough to know that I need a Savior and that His way is always BEST. Instead of posting a Bible verse here and there on social media because it looks good before man, remember we serve a GOD who sees the heart. He knows if HE has yours or not. My prayer is that you will never want to hear God say:

21“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ (Matthew 7:21-23)

God wants a relationship with all of us. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to the cross to pay for our sins. Our risen and living Savior. If you’re not saved today, then I encourage you to visit my Salvation Prayer page. It is written in Revelations 22:17, The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, has already paid the price for us. The Lamb of God. Welcome Him into your heart today.

Love you all in Christ,
Ayesha L. Shoulders 💞
