Stop Thinking Small!

 

I don’t serve a small God. I was going to start off with the pronoun “we,” but I recognize some people think they are still in control. So, maybe I should say it this way, GOD is not small. The Creator of the heavens and earth (Genesis 1:1) and the one who holds us in the palm of His righteous right hand (Isaiah 41:10) IS NOT small. Factual. The one who EVERYTHING on this earth belongs to Him is NOT small (Psalm 24:1). Scripturally written and true…

So why do you think your blessings or a seed you have sown, for which you have been waiting to receive a harvest, is going to come forth as small?

This was not the blog I was going to write this morning. In fact, I was ready to share an older blog post I had written from my author website at ayeshashoulders.com. However, this message came to me. Though I know this message is for me, I want to share it because I feel this may help someone else too.

I don’t know about you, but I have sown a seed and I am waiting for the harvest. This is not waiting like a person who sits by a pot waiting for it to boil. No, I have grown past that. This is maturity in Christ, thank God! I am not watching the pot, but I haven’t forgotten about the seed that I have sown. Just as I was about to repost the blog that I had intended to share, the parable about the prodigal son came to me. God knows what is on our heart and speaks to many of us in a way that we know it is Him.

The Parable of the Lost Son

If you have not read this parable in the Gospel of Luke 15:11-32 in the Holy Bible, I encourage you to read it. The son returned home after squandering away his wealth in wild living, and the father threw a celebration because his son was lost and is found (Luke 15:32). Sounds familiar? The parable reflected an act of forgiveness, love, and compassion that the father had for his son. Jesus says in Luke 15:10, In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

The father in the parable threw a party, a celebration, because his son came to his senses and returned home. The son, who had committed the act of squandering his money away, did not throw the party, but the father did in this parable! Some people would expect it to be the other way around, but I am thankful we serve a merciful, loving God who is full of compassion for his children.

With that said, if our heavenly Father, through the representation of this parable, will throw a grand party for someone returning to Him, then why are you expecting a small manifestation of the seed you have sown? There are some things that cannot be returned to you small due to the way it left your life.

Let me say it this way, and I give thanks to the Holy Spirit for His help…

You reap what you sow (Galatians 6:7). Therefore, if what you have sown has been an effort of love through tears, prayers, interceding on someone else’s behalf as Jesus Christ does for us (Romans 8:34), sowing into ministries, and helping others with God’s help, then your harvest CANNOT come back small. You reap what you sow.

If you have sown a lot, then you will receive a lot! Read 2 Corinthians 9:6-9 about sowing sparingly and reaping sparely.…So stop looking for the small blessing!

You’re not going to labor in that way, which is between you and God, and then expect our Father in Heaven to hand you over a ham sandwich. It just doesn’t work this way, especially after reading the prodigal son and seeing how the father put together a celebratory event for his son who left him and committed negligent acts. Our God is not small. He is full of compassion and love for all of us.

Some of us are walking around saying we are waiting on man to do this and man to do that. But I am waiting on God!

In this parable, man had prepared an apology and came forth to give it, but God remembered his sins no more (Hebrews 8:12) as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12) and had the best robe, ring, sandals, fatten calf, feast, and the ability to call a celebration! I don’t know about you, but I want what GOD has for me and not man! He is the one I am waiting on. You will never be disappointed waiting on God, because we cannot outgive Him nor can we outlove Him. He is full of compassion and love for all of us.

For this reason, I give thanks!

I pray this post helps someone else today. It sure has blessed me and serves as another reminder that God is still in control. He will show up at the proper time!
